How do I get hold of Sudoku Xtra?
You can either choose to download and print it yourself or you can buy a pre-printed copy.
Who is the magazine suitable for?
Anyone who likes puzzles will enjoy
Sudoku Xtra. There are puzzles to cater to all levels of interest, from casual solver to puzzle fanatic!
Many of the puzzles are challenging, but none of them require guess work
to solve - they can all be solved by reasonable logical deduction.
How many puzzles do I get?
Sudoku Xtra issue 1 has 100 puzzles across its 44 large pages;
Sudoku Xtra issue 2 has 121 puzzles over 51 pages, and issue 3 has 119 puzzles - all of these totals are far more
puzzles than most other mixed titles like this contain. With the dozens of
different puzzle types across the magazine you're sure to find lots that
you enjoy. Have a look at the list of puzzles on the
home page - and this is just a selection from those included!
Who makes the puzzles?
All of the puzzles are either entirely hand-made or have a significant
manual component in their creation, and are by me, Dr Gareth Moore,
author of
a wide range of brain-training and puzzle books for both adults and children. From issue 2 onwards there is also a special section
at the back with community content, hopefully building up a good in-magazine forum for sharing puzzles with other readers. This section contains some great original puzzles.
What are the pre-printed versions like?
If you buy a printed copy from
Amazon.com (recommended for US/Canadian
readers) then you'll get a large 8 inch by 10 inch magazine with a full
colour glossy cover, printed on quality paper perfect for solving
puzzles on. The
Lulu version (recommended for UK and most other
readers) is identical except that the page size is A4, not cropped to
the slightly smaller 8 inch by 10 inch format - the extra space is
simply shaded in, and there are some blank pages at the rear to make the
magazine up to their minimum page count for printing. Both are printed
at book quality, far exceeding store magazine quality. Due to postage
costs, it is usually cheaper to order from Amazon in the US/Canada, and Lulu in the UK and most other countries too. Amazon also offer free postage and packaging if your order reaches sufficient value.
What happens if I choose the download?
You'll receive a link to the PDF of the magazine which you can print out yourself. It's designed to print perfectly on either A4 or Letter sized paper, and
you need print only the pages you want - each puzzle page has full instructions on, so there's no need to print every page immediately if you
want to save paper or ink. The pages are designed so as not to waste ink, with no large areas of solid ink for example.
The puzzles print really well at a full page each but they will also still be solvable if you print two pages to one piece
of paper, 2-up, if you choose to print that way. You can then make for example an A5-sized magazine perfect for carrying around with you.
Can I print it with a black and white printer?
Yes!
Sudoku Xtra is designed to be printed in black and white,
and indeed apart from the cover the entire magazine is in black and
white if you buy a pre-printed copy. The download version has a very
small colour band at the top and bottom, but this forms no part of the
puzzles and is purely decorative - it is designed to print perfectly
well in black and white.
Can I subscribe?
Yes, you certainly can - but only to the download version, and not the
pre-printed version. Currently there isn't a mechanism to set up a
recurring order for the printed version. Just go to
the main Sudoku Xtra page and click the
"subscribe for one year and save money!" link at the bottom to reveal
the necessary options.
Subscriptions are for 1 year and consist of 12 issues. When you
subscribe you'll be sent the download link for the current issue immediately, and
then subsequent download links will be emailed to you each month. Going
forward, a special page will also be set up on the site for you where you can
download all of the issues you currently own.
Can I give a subscription as a gift?
Definitely! Please note that currently this is only available for
download issues - please see previous question. Just use the
subscription purchase button on the
home
page as if buying for yourself and then
also send a quick email to
Gareth@SudokuXtra.com letting me
know who you'd like to gift the subscription to, and what email address
or name was associated with your Paypal purchase. Also if you don't want it to start immediately please
tell me on what date you would like the gift subscription
to start. If this date is after a later issue is out (issues appear in the middle of each month) then let
me know whether to send multiple issues together up front, or to start
with the then-current issue. If there's any particular message or different "from" attribution you want included with
the first received issue(s) sent please tell me, or alternatively if you want to
send the first issue(s) yourself that's great too - I'll send you the link
to forward. (In the coming weeks I hope to automate this process!)
Can I get back issues with a subscription?
Sure - a subscription gets you 12 issues, and you are welcome to pick any number of back issues to count towards your subscription total. Just email
Gareth@SudokuXtra.com and let me know.
