Hi Sue, I've got to agree with you - the latest issue was better than ever with all the new puzzle types - really enjoyed them all (though one or two are causing me a bit of a headache - but in this instance that's good!). It sounds as though the next issue is going to have lots new as well.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Dave, sorry to hear that you are not in the best of health and hope that there is an improvement soon. You encouraged many more people to contribute puzzles for the community section which meant there were always plenty of new puzzle types to have a go at. I'm glad to hear you are still planning to send in your own puzzle contributions. Like Sue I have every intention of continuing to pby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just downloaded a copy of Issue 19 and have to say it looks better than ever. It's great to see that it contains quite a lot of new variants - can't wait to get stuck into the kropki, sudoku XV etc. Like Sue, I would also be pleased to see some more inequalities, but it seems as though you have already agreed to this, so thanks! Futoshiki is good, but just not the same - I always find the ineqby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Don't think (Well let's be honest I know I'm not!) up to competing in any championships but will certainly have a look at them afterwards! At the moment I'm working my way through your Xtra consecutive sudoku pdf and really enjoying the puzzles.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just popped by to show continued interest in the magazine since as Sue said, it's pretty quiet of late. Looking forward to issue 18 in due course.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I downloaded a copy of this last night and the first seven grids - really great fun David, especially with all the different sudoku types contained in there. I've never done kropki before but managed to get that grid completed! It will be interesting to see whether I can manage the whole thing! What a good idea though - thanks for thatby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Thanks for the update Dave - I'm sure it will be worth the wait! In the meantime I have just been along to the Griddle and printed off your last four samurai sodukus - they should keep me going a while - I like the idea of the combination of two or three sudoku varieties in one puzzle! The greater/lesser than ones look rather tricky so it will be interesting to see how I get on! Will let you kby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Any more news on when to expect this? Sorry to be impatient - I know you've a lot on, but it's better than us not being interested, isn't it?!!!!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
If you have a look at Sue's post above Nats, you will see that Sudoku Pro is no longer published, but if you like a wide variety of challenging puzzles (just read your other post on another thread) then you ought to download a copy of Sudoku Xtra if you haven't already done so - can't beat it for puzzle variety and level of challenge.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Shame about the wait for more decent puzzles, but as Sue says there can't be a much better reason for the delay. All the best for the world puzzle championships - hope you and the rest of the team do us proud! Have a great time.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Glad you enjoyed the starbattles Sue and added your vote for them to become a regular! I've become somewhat addicted to them and have been scouring around looking for some more to do - some I've managed quite easily (now I've managed to work out a few strategie) and some are nigh on impossible! It would be great to see some 'medium' ones if either Gareth or any of the community puzzlers out theby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I liked both your new puzzles this issue Gareth (thermometers and Star Battles) but I particularly enjoyed Star Battles. I'd seen this before but never had a go, and loved it. Took a bit of thinking about but got there in the end. I've been seeking out similar puzzles all weekend. I would love to see this become a regular.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just a quick one to say I have only just started working my way through the puzzles in Issue 16 but particularly enjoyed Elliot's Zipline and Fences puzzles, the Zipline in particular got me thinking and I would love to see more of these some time. Great community section this issue, can't wait to have a go at a few more.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Vexus, thought you might like some feedback from someone who is a member of the "puzzling public" as opposed to the many puzzle experts amongst you who are out there compiling the puzzles! I'm not particularly numerate having a more literacy based background, but love taxing the old brain cells with all these Xtra puzzles! It took me a while to get to grips with the puzzles and Iby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Lovely surprise to log on and find Issue 16 awaiting. Needless to say I have downloaded it immediately! It looks really excellent as usual - don't know where to begin, but lucky for me I still have three weeks of the school holidays left before I go back to work,so plenty of extra time to fathom out how to do some of the new puzzle types! I think between you and Dave you've managed to rope inby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
No, you're not alone Sue - I'm exactly the same. No interest in the 16 x 16 and bigger sudokus, but love the samurai stars and a book of mixed variants would be right up my street!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just returned from a weeks holiday and must admit that for once I didn't look at a single puzzle - I just sat and read books in all my spare moments which was quite a novelty since having become addicted to puzzles a few years ago now, I have read so much less and puzzled so much more! Needless to say I'm raring to go again now and Issue 16 sounds brilliant. May I add my congratulations to evby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I'm looking forward to the giant tapas - sounds very interesting. And as for them being easy, if they were any more difficult I don't think I personally would be able to do them - they were quite challenging enough for me. Thanks for the tips on Heyawake. I will go back now and have another look at them and see how I get on - practice makes perfect and all that ...by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I would love to see Kuromasu puzzles appearing some time. And also arrow sudoku, no 10s sudoku and maybe non consecutive sudoku since we already have the consecutive sudoku. I tend to do japanese puzzles mostly but would be interested in branching out a bit more if the puzzles were not too difficult to begin with - it can be a bit off putting if there are loads of types you can't get startedby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just a quick one to say I've really enjoyed the tapas puzzles in the last two editions of Xtra and after a couple of false starts have managed to complete them all Now as for heyawake, I just can't get to grips with those at all. I understand the rules but just can't find any way in on the issue 15 puzzles. . I think I will just have to accept that they are not 'my thing'. Plenty of other puby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Gareth - have completed these three puzzles and enjoyed them - much easier than other recently introduced puzzles such as Heyawake and Tapas puzzles. The first one felt as though I was doing a numberlink puzzle - not joining pairs of numbers obviously, but working out possible routes to include all squares. As you say, the second and third puzzles solved more logically. I did wonder whby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Great news about the Lulu versions - I thought they'd stopped coming! I'm just printing off Issue 15 as I speak to peruse through in a few minutes with a nice glass of wine! Decisions, decisions - what to attempt first! It's great to have the pdf files as soon as they come out but there's nothing like having a hard copy as well! I've got all the issues saved up and am always going back to preby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just when you think there can't possibly be any more sudoku variants along comes another one! I've really enjoyed Deb Mohanty's frameless sudoku in Issue 14. A couple of quite tricky ones in there (for me anyway) but got there in the end. I would love to see some more of these appear in the mag.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Thanks for taking the trouble to write out those tips - much appreciated. I've had a busy week this week so not had time to give it a go yet, but I'll get around to it eventually and give you some feedback!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Mathimagics! I can't comment on the mechanics of these puzzles but just wanted to say I have downloaded the three puzzles you attached above and have had a very enjoyable afternoon solving them. It took me more than one attempt on each one ( I occasionally forgot to take the '0' into account, but I guess that will resolve itself with practise - was also watching the World Snooker semi-finaby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just to say I downloaded a copy of Issue 14 yesterday and it looks the best yet! I spent a very pleasant couple of hours yesterday afternoon sitting in my garden browsing through the pages and getting started on one or two of the puzzles. In fact I now have rather red arms due to too much concentration and no sun-cream. Fancy getting burnt in England in April! Anyway, the first thing I hadby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Sue - it's nice to know I can get one over a maths teacher occasionally!!! Only joking - it's usually me who's the one asking for help. I'm not so successful with the samurai skyscrapers - I find them difficult too - I've only ever completed two or three of them, but I love having a go - I'm always going back and printing them off for another try. What a buzz when you do finally get one (by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Sue, Marie, Gareth..! I hadn't actually done this puzzle but having read the above posts decided it was about time I did! I have to say that (unusually for me!) I managed to do this first time, and that it all seemed to fall into place quite logically. I checked the solution and it agreed with the answer given. Whether there is more than one solution I can't say (I haven't tried to findby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
My mistake entirely - I did mean Odd Pair sudoku and I would definitely love a pdf file if ever you find the time amongst your many projects! I've noticed the wider variety of puzzles over at Puzzlemix which is great although personally I tend just to do the quick, easier ones because I much prefer to scrawl my pencil marks over paper rather than gaze at the screen for puzzles that are going tby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just a query Gareth - I noticed on your Puzzlemix site you've added a collection of 100 odd/even sudoku puzzles. As these are one of my favourite puzzle types I wondered if there was any chance of making the collection into a pdf file to print off to sell on here perhaps? I'm not one for solving on screen - makes my eyes go funny gazing at it for long periods of time. Obviously I don't know hoby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
