Hi Gareth, yes you are right with Easy as ABC and Star Battles. Dare I say this on here (lol) but I subscribe to Beyond Sudoku magazine and the names I mentioned in my previous post are the names they use. You just get four of the ABC puzzles and three Star Battles puzzles each edition, all of which are a little bit easy (even for me!) but you don't seem to find them anywhere else.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Marilyn, and a happy New Year to you too and also to Gareth and Sue! Yes, I'm very well, thank you and puzzling on and off as you do! Missing the Xtra books, but still got an awful lot to keep me going and at the minute am working my way through the second set of odd/even sudoku on the Puzzlemix site! Two puzzles that I really like, and you don't find an awful lot of (not that I'm hintinby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Sue and Marilyn - hope you are both well. What a lovely part of the country you have moved to Sue - lovely for walks (if the sun ever shines again!) in between puzzling. I haven't touched the inequalities book in a while, but now that it's been brought back to the forefront of my mind again, perhaps it's time to take another looke at it. I've been doing a lot of the puzzles in the Mammotby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Jane and Sue - glad to hear you're on the mend Jane - and that you have plenty of puzzling to help you convalesce. I also totally agree about the paper - don't like to do puzzles in pen for obvious reasons, and you do have to press on rather hard to make the pencil marks show up.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Jane and Sue My best wishes for your recovery too Jane - hope you found plenty to keep you occupied whilst in hospital. I'm also looking out for issue 23 and look forward to its arrival. In the meantime I have bought Gareth's Mammoth Book of New Sudoku from Amazon and if you haven't already got it, I would highly recommend it. It's got 495 puzzles including all the variants that we hby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Morning Sue, Marilyn and Gareth! Got to admit, I have left my inequalities book alone for a while (I have six others of the 200 series which I have been working at on and off with much more success!) But thanks for high-lighting some of the slightly easier ones Marilyn - I will go back and have another look at those. More books? Well, my personal preferences would be for odd pair sudokuby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Sue and Marilyn - glad to hear you are still continuing to do so well with the puzzles. Sue - you are making just amazing progress. Marilyn - thanks for pointing out some of the easier ones for me - I have put an asterisk by those puzzles and will have a go at them next. At the moment I seem to be going through the book and trying out puzzles at random. Strangely enough, puzzle 44 was oneby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Six puzzles in one evening Sue - I'm impressed! I was feeling pleased with myself this evening when I did two! I managed number 44 in one sitting - that one was quite straightforward in the end (still took me an age mind!) and I also completed 113 which I had previously started and got stuck on. It's definitely inspiring me having you and Marilyn to discuss successes with!!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Thanks for that explanation Gareth. It seems I have been using that piece of logic without realising it was called an x-wing. I think the best thing for me is to enlarge the grids so that I can see all the pencil marks more clearly! I'm not giving up!!! Well done Marilyn on cracking number 21 - I think I'll leave that one for a bit and work my way up to it!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Marilyn, Sue and Gareth First of all Marilyn - your song really made me smile! Shows how much the puzzles must have inspired you if you are composing songs to help! Sue, congratulations on finally completing 21. I am really impressed by yours and Marilyn's brain power and determination! My progress is much slower (probably doesn't help that I don't know what an X-wing is - can you solby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Sue and Marilyn - thanks for your encouragement with the puzzles! I am quite envious of your brain power, but at last success! Marilyn - I have completed number 24! Will have a go at 20 and 23! Please let me know if there are any more relatively easy ones to have a go at! I usually try to get 9s and 1s in place first and work from there. The good thing about really hard puzzles is thby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Sue and Marilyn - well you two and me - just about, because I haven't given up on the book quite yet, but am finding the puzzles really too difficult for me. I keep trying different ones and have made quite good progress with some of them, but I just don't seem to be able to finish them. I hate being beaten and keep hoping I can get a few of them solved. Have only managed about five so far!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Sue Well done on solving so many of the first 50 puzzles. You have obviously got a better brain than mine. I put my equality book aside for a while in favour of some of the easier books Sudoku XV, Arrow, Kropki and even the Mystery Killer Sudoku Pro. After reading your post I've dug out the inequality book again but am really struggling with them. I've only completed four so far and havby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Thanks for all the tips everyone - they are coming in very useful. Sue - I have to admire your perseverance with the inequalities. I have put my book down for the moment in favour of some of the other 200 series puzzles, but am determined to pick them up again and have another bash. I don't like to be beaten. I've made a note of the ones you have completed and will let you know if I get anby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Thanks for all that advice Marilyn - there were one or two pointers there that I hadn't thought of. I'll go back and have another look at puzzle 1 now.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I've been really enjoying the Kropki puzzles both in Sudoku Xtra and now the 200 series, but just wondered if I was missing anything obvious with getting started on some of the puzzles? For instance, in the 200 series (which I've only just started) I went straight for puzzles 2, 3 and 4 because there were plenty of the black dots in there. Obviously where there are 3 black dots in a row theyby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Elisabeth - funny how we find some puzzle types easier than others isn't it? I'm having a bit of difficulty with the inequality sudoku, but doing pretty well with Sudoku XV and Arrow so far - I know they are supposed to get harder as they go. I'm working steadily on the Mystery Killer Sudoku Pro but progress is a bit slower. I love the Kropki and like you find the hardest bit getting starby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Sue - so far I've done numbers 3, 4 and 15. And that's it! But I expect (hope) I will get some more completed eventually. I have to wait until my brain is in the mood for a bit more thinking! On the other hand I am racing through the Sudoku XV puzzles and love the Mystery Killer Sudoku Pro one. I've also bought Kropki and Arrow Sudoku and am sure a couple more will find their way into my Amaby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I got the 200 Inequalities too Sue, and am also finding them very challenging! I've not had the book long but only completed three at the moment! My vote would also go for a mix of samurai types.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Jane - you sound as addicted to puzzles as me!!! Gareth - I've just ordered both the Kropki and the Arrow sudoku. Thanks for responding to the requests - much appreciated. I've never been so well off for puzzlesby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
As Sue has mentioned in another thread you have been busy Gareth! What a great selection of puzzles books! Such temptation! I have already bought the Sudoku XV, Inequality Sudoku and Mystery Killer Sudoku Pro and several others have made their way onto my wish list!! I think the KIller Zero and Outside Sudoku might be the next ones to make their way into my basket. No need to be stuck forby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I'd just like to add my thanks to Sue's for another fantastic looking issue - I can't wait to get started on the samurai arrow sudoku - definitely another of these at some point please. Actually Sue - my tastes are very similar to yours - I would love to see more of the new puzzles types from the last couple of issues - it's been great to try out lots of new variants. As was mine, but it sounds as though it won't be too long now and in the meantime, I've ordered the XV special as well!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Sue - I am also stuck with the samurai star! Just done the Snail puzzles on your recommendation and really enjoyed them. I would love to have more of these. The logic reminded me a bit of the ABC End View puzzles.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Sue, I'm not doing too badly with the mystery killers in that I've completed the first two and looking forward to the third one. As for the zero, I've had a look at it, and looked at a few possibilities but not getting anywhere quick. I haven't done the samurai star yet - I'll have a look at it over the next day or two and see how I get on - will let you know. Amanda - I've enjoyed theby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Still haven't managed the Mystery Killer, but have just done the Zero Killer (at the end of the set of ordinary Killer Sudoku) and really enjoyed it. Could we please have more Kropki in the next issue too - love those!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I thought it was about time I came on here and said how much I am enjoying Issue 20 - so many new varieties to try out - some with more success than others! My favourites are the XV, the arrow sudoku, Mystery Killer Sudoku Pro (I haven't done the Zero one yet but have a feeling that one might be a bit beyond me - loved the others though), Frame Sudoku, and Little Killer. I also like the wormby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Yay - I've done the samurai kropki! Actually it wasn't too bad at all once I'd found the way in so thanks for the encouragement Sue! That's al I had to say really! Hope there are some more of them in the next issue. Now to have a go at the jigsaw extra regions.....by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Amanda, Elisabeth and Sue - it's nice to see a bit of discussion going on in the forum again. I think Gareth's new puzzle variations have sparked off a bit of renewed interest. I'm really enjoying issue 19. I don't normally do the jigsaw sudokus - not one of my favourites but after reading the discussions you've been having, you've inspired me to have a go! I've really enjoyed the Sudokuby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
