Yes - great puzzle Gareth! I must admit I wasted an hour not being careful enough on the diagonals (frustrating how one wrong number can muck up the complete puzzle but you don't realise until the very end!) However - wanting to see the effect you and Spittledung had mentioned I persevered and it all fell into place at the second attempt! Great puzzle - would love to see another of these.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Marthe and Sue Beyond Sudoku is a magazine I occasionally buy, although I hadn't bothered for quite some time. Funnily enough I was in WHS only yesterday and picked up 3 copies of Beyond Sudoku which were all marked down to half price. It's nowhere near as good as Gareth's Sudoku Xtra (I'm not being a creep, honest!) but it's quite a decent magazine with plenty of variety as Sue and Garethby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Thanks for the reply! Seems like it might be worth investing in another then, if the glue doesn't work!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just a bit of a shot in the dark here, but wondered whether anyone out there is a Rubik's cube expert? One of my sons is a bit of a whizz on the 3 x 3 cube, so we got him a 4 x 4 to provide a new challenge and within half an hour it was in bits all over the carpet! A lot of patience, a bit of glue and a couple of hours later it was all back together again but has since dropped apart three timesby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Just to add my Christmas wishes too! Hope everyone has had a real good time. We've spent the last couple of days travelling back and forth to Yorkshire to visit our parents (and have had some lovely turkey dinners!) and so haven't had much time for t.v. or puzzles, but am about to remedy that now! We've got Dr Who taped to watch in the next day or so - we are all addicts in our household! Asby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Have downloaded issue 2 already and very good it looks too (I am trying my hardest to save it for after Christmas - don't know whether or not I will succeed!) so will report back on my favourite puzzles later! There are some really interesting looking variations this time, the Community section looks interesting too. Hope you are fully recovered in time for Christmas Gareth and manage a wellby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I tend to do masses and masses of the same type of puzzle until I'm finally sick of the sight of them and so am always trying to find something a bit different. I tend never to do standard sudoku these days as I have done enough to last a lifetime over the past two years. I'm also keen on on KenKen/Calcudoku at the minute and prefer harder ones which present a real challenge. Spittledung, Iby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Issue 2 sounds very promising! Have you any date in mind yet for its publication?by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I've been and had a look at your site Dave - there are some great puzzles on there! Am enjoying the funky kakuro!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Glad it's not just me! I must admit I prefer a challenging puzzle to the ones you can just sit and fill the numbers in without much thought. The harder the puzzle, the greater the satisfaction when you finally get to that one number which opens up the whole puzzle! Mind you, it is nice to be able to get to that stage! I do appreciate though that Gareth has to cater to all levels of puzzlersby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi Marilyn! Glad you're getting used to the Skyscrapers! I also find these pretty hard going, but enjoy having a go at them! They make a nice change from the standard sudoku variations we see so many of. Don't know whether you have tried the ones on Gareth's blog site? One or two of them are a bit easier for practising on. Congratulations on completing the SSSS Spittledung. Mine is stillby Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I quite like mosaic puzzles too although they are not something I have every done regularly. Another variation on the sudoku theme is Hanidoku.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Thanks to your encouragement I have now got to grips with this puzzle and have found several samples to practise on with some success! Funnily enough I have managed to solve the second masyu in the magazine but keep going wrong in the bottom left hand corner of the first one, so must print off another copy and try again! Now to have another look at yajilin.by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
So now we have all had time to start making our way through issue 1 I thought it might be interesting to find out what our favourite puzzles are from the magazine, so what are your top 3? Mine are:- 1) Skyscraper and skyscraper sudoku 2) consecutive sudoku 3) Samurai star calcudoku Oh and the masyu now I have learnt how to do it!!by Christine - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
