I will make sure all your requests go in the next issue - if nothing else it is just reward for keeping the forum going. As you say, it would be great if more readers got involved! To be fair, however, the traffic dropped when I redesigned the site to make it a link on the right. I think if I made it much more prominent again it might help. I do intend to do a little bit of redesign "soon&qby gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum

I think the reason there are no stockists in the most expensive areas - the centre of London, centre of Oxford, etc - is because these cost a lot of money. It's not because they don't want them there! One reason Accolade folded was because WHS charged them circa £100,000 a year just to hide a few of their magazines away somewhere near the back of the shelves, and wouldn't let them exit the contby gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Sudoku Xtra 8 is now available for download! Printed copies are available from Lulu (recommended for most of the world) and also Amazon.com (recommended for US readers). There's an 'S' theme for a few of the puzzles this month, as you can see on the cover: This issue I'm very excited to welcome some brand new Community Puzzles section contributors - Thomas Collyer, the two-time UK Timesby gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
To add to the existing 25x25 and 16x16 books, a book of 100 Easy Jigsaw Sudoku is now available both for download and pre-printed from either Amazon.com or Lulu. Just click here for more details! I've also cut the prices of the existing books to match the new download price of £3.99/$5.99 per book - previously it was £1/$2 more per item for downloads. Printed books remain at the same cost.by gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum

Thank you! I forgot to say that I managed to get a list of ALL newsagents stocking it from the publishers, so if anyone posts their postcode (or emails me it or posts a nearby postcode if they'd rather not reveal where they are!) then I can look it up. I might try and write a web app to do that more easily too, now all the postcode data is free of charge (at data.gov.uk).by gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Yes, I've got that book - it's new this year! I was a bit disappointed because they're all pretty easy, but it's such a fun puzzle it's still enjoyable to do. I did find a couple of decent much larger ones in their latest 'Puzzle the Giants' book, however.by gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
There are some brand new community puzzle section contributors in the forthcoming issue 8 of Sudoku Xtra (due late Sunday/early Monday), including puzzles from a not once but a twice UK national Sudoku champion; there are also puzzles from one of the finest and most productive creators of Japanese puzzles outside Japan. If you would like to order a printed copy of Sudoku Xtra and are outside the US (where Amazon.com is the best route) then you can avoid Lulu's considerable postage charges by using the code FREEGROUND305 at checkout. This will let you save up to £25 on postage costs (which should be enough! ). This offer expires on June 30th 2010.by gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
No, Sudoku Xtra is available only for download as a PDF from this website, or alternatively pre-printed from Amazon.com (US) or Lulu.com (elsewhere). You can of course order from Amazon.com to the UK, but with postage it will cost a lot. Some people are however importing it from Amazon.com to the UK and other countries, such as those in the link you provided above, and selling it at the Amazonby gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Sudoku Pro is only on the shelves of independent newsagents, not WH Smiths or supermarkets. Quite what defines a newsagent as independent I'm not sure - possibly this includes Londis for example. I have asked a couple of times but either no one knows or it's a state secret. I imagine any newsagent can order it if requested, if you just want copies when you feel like it rather than subscribing.by gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Hi, Yes, the all-new Sudoku Pro contains only puzzles made by me (except for issue 51 which is 97% made by me but includes 3 vanilla Sudoku which came from elsewhere - I have no idea why! From issue 52 onwards all of the puzzles are entirely mine again). I even get to write an "editor's introduction" now, which is quite exciting - someone else wrote the issue 51 one but from issueby gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
You see US dollars on both sites because you're in the US - I see pounds when I visit them. You can change the currency using the drop-down too. Thanks for spotting that Jeff - it looks like this is actually the cheapest way to get hold of it in the UK now, at least for single purchases, due to the cost of postage and packaging on Lulu. It's also the Amazon.com version, which I slightly prefer because at 8"x10" dispenses with the slightly larger black bars of the Lulu version - but essentially both printed versions are otherwisby gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I'm excited to announce that Sudoku Pro magazine, packed full of my puzzles, is now back on shelves in the UK in selected independent newsagents. Thanks for all the great feedback! I would have replied sooner but I was on holiday this week. I will make a list and make sure the next issue contains some (at least) of the above requests! I also did the Sudoku Minus - as you say it's essentially a case of making a table of combinations and eliminating them bit by bit. I got going in the bottom-left 3x3 and worked from there. I'm really glad you enjoyed the Yajilin - that's the first time I've made one anywhere near that size! I always try to put some interesting logic in the puzzles I make and the challenge is to keep that logic there by the time you're finished - because sometimes you end up having to compromise in order to give the puzzle a unique solution, so you add in extra clues which unfortunately make theby gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
Funny you say that - I often do exactly the same when I solve Sudoku! I get towards the end of a puzzle and then I start hurtling the digits in rather than taking care, and as you say it all goes wrong at the very end. Please do request the puzzles you'd like to see - in fact it actually helps, since it's one less thing to think about!by gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I can't remember where I got to with this puzzle - I think I've thrown out my own printed copy that I tried it out on now because I replaced it with the shiny professional one that comes from Amazon.com each month. I've made a couple of particularly large puzzles for issue 7. I've got a 20x30 Nurikabe and a 20x30 Yajilin, both of which are reasonably challenging and the latter of which will be on the cover. I've also made a pair of the same two puzzles which both use the same layout of the given clues, so that should be a pretty striking page in the magazine too. You're right - it's been quiet recently! I'm not really sure why that is, but I've always found that on PuzzleMix too - sometimes it is very quiet and sometimes it's very busy. It tends to go in cycles, but what causes those cycles I have no idea! Here's something that amused me. I'm used to seeing puzzle books put in odd places in bookstores, and in overly-broad categories on websites, but Amazon.ca's classification of The Rough Guide Book of Brain Training (which has over 500 of my puzzles of the types found in Sudoku Xtra in) is brilliant: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1848365187/ref=gfix_mc_hd #17 in Books > Children's Bookby gareth - Sudoku Xtra Discussion Forum
I've been thinking (which should some day translate into actually doing...!!!) of making a book of loop puzzles - covering Yajilin, Masyu, Slitherlink and Suraromu. There are also a few other Japanese ones I like that could go in. But this is a way off, and I still have several other books I expected to have "in a week" a few months back... achum!
